Landscape scale biodiversity net gain initiative in Durham generating over 245 biodiversity units for sale.

  • Overview

    Located to the north of Raby Castle, Park and Gardens, this BNG scheme will see the creation of a range of habitat types to enhance biodiversity and promote wildlife movement across the landscape.

    The legal agreement for this scheme is currently in development.

  • Developers can secure biodiversity units for the following habitat types:

    • Ponds (priority habitat) of high distinctiveness
    • Grassland of medium distinctiveness
    • Heathland and shrub of medium distinctiveness
    • Individual trees of medium distinctiveness
    • Species-rich native hedgerow with trees – associated with bank or ditch of very high distinctiveness
