Biodiversity net gain initiative creating around 103 biodiversity units for sale

• Overview

  Landscape-scale initiative delivering a variety of habitats and generating approximately 103 new biodiversity units for sale.

   

  The scheme sits within the Ashford Planning Authority, providing a vast coverage for trading biodiversity units on a 1:1 basis. Conversion of crop fields to species-rich neutral grasslands and mixed scrub in good condition, alongside creating new native hedgerows in good condition, will improve connectivity across the landscape and support priority habitats in the area. The site is strategically positioned only two kilometres from the River Beult SSSI and is near to priority habitat areas of Ancient & Semi-Natural Woodland.

   

  The biodiversity baseline and the Habitat Management and Monitoring Plan have been completed for this scheme.  

• Developers can secure biodiversity units for the following habitat types:

  • Species-rich native hedgerow with trees of high distinctiveness
  • Heathland and shrub of medium distinctiveness
  • Grassland of medium distinctiveness
