Biodiversity net gain initiative creating >500 biodiversity units for sale

• Overview

  The Heart of the Dales Landscape Recovery Project will be delivering nature recovery within the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park.

  The National Trust in collaboration with local farmers and land managers will enhance this landscape.

  Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is one component of this significant nature recovery project. A wide range of biodiversity units will be generated from the creation and enhancement of habitats here.

  This BNG scheme is currently in development, and we are seeking expressions of interest from developers interested in securing off-site BNG here.  

• Developers can secure biodiversity units for the following habitat types:

  • Upland hay meadow of very high distinctiveness
  • Lowland dry acid grassland of very high distinctiveness
  • Limestone pavement of very high distinctiveness
  • Blanket bog of very high distinctiveness
  • Fens of very high distinctiveness
  • Purple moor grass and rush pastures of very high distinctiveness
  • Wood-pasture and parkland of very high distinctiveness
  • Upland calcareous grassland of high distinctiveness
  • Traditional orchards of high distinctiveness
  • Wet woodland of high distinctiveness
  • Upland oakland of high distinctiveness
  • Upland mixed ashwoods of high distinctiveness
  • Species-rich native hedgerow with trees of high distinctiveness
  • Other rivers and streams of high distinctiveness
  • Grassland of medium distinctiveness
  • Scrub of medium distinctiveness
  • Pond of medium distinctiveness
  • Woodland of medium distinctiveness
  • Rural tree of medium distinctiveness
  • Hedgerow of medium distinctiveness
